On July 15th, 1975, Clifford Antone opened up a blues club on 6th street. Little did he know that this club would become a keystone of the Austin music scene as its known today. Blues legends like Muddy Waters, B.B. King, Stevie Ray Vaughan have all taken the Antone’s stages throughout the years and created sacred grounds for the blues. After 41 years and a few location changes, the club is now on East 5th street and is still a haven of blues and live tunes.

Today, we had some very special guests who have been playing Antone’s for years: Sue Foley & Eve Monsees. Sue Foley started recording for Antone’s when she was only 21 years old, and has made a life playing the blues ever since. You may know Eve from Eve and the Exiles or The Bluebonnet’s around town, or from stopping by Antone’s record shop. With a solid rhythm of section of Mike Keller and Mike Buck, we were lucky enough to have the two jam a few tunes for us.

This week we celebrate the 41st Anniversary of Antone’s, by a exceptional lineup throughout the whole weekend (Gary Clark Jr., Jimmie Vaughan, etc…). The whole calendar can be found by clicking here. For now enjoy Sue Foley & Eve Monsees’ visit to Studio 1A for a morning of blues.
