While on tour in support of their debut album, Whitney‘s Julien Ehrlich and Max Kakacek were weathering the transitional period of their mid-twenties: priorities were shifting, relationships were changing, and their career was on the rise. With all of these changes, the Chicago duo became fixated on the anxiety and acceptance of time’s limitation, which eventually became the major theme behind the duo’s landmark sophomore album, Forever Turned Around. By permeating sixties and seventies folk-rock with visuals of nostalgic memories, Whitney mentions they are actively avoiding being “too indie”, pulling lush strings, organs and horns together with a timelessness that can’t be put into one category.
The duo stopped by Studio1A ahead of their two sold-out shows in Austin to play some songs off their new album and chat with KUTX’s Jody Denberg. Check out the full session and an unaired bonus track below!
