Butch Hancock & Turk Pipkin 11.27.18

Almost three decades after a sold-out run of their two-man/one-man show “Own Their Own” at Austin’s Capital City Playhouse, West Texas expats Butch Hancock and Turk Pipkin unite again for an evening of music fun, words and deeds of visual and verbal daring.

Butch Hancock, a world-traveling troubadour, has been called “one of the finest songwriters of our time.” Hancock’s music evoke mystical visions of wind-swept West Texas plains, while his lyrics tell powerful stories with creative imagination. His performance in Own Their Own will include some of his best-known songs, his rarely seen Lord of the Highway road movies and will see Butch occasionally sharing the stage with his longtime friend Turk Pipkin.

Writer and Filmmaker Turk Pipkin began his Austin career 40 years ago as a comedic performer at Armadillo World Headquarters, Esther’s Follies and touring as the opening act for Rodney Dangerfield and many others. Turk has since published a dozen books of fiction and non-fiction, and directed three award-winning feature documentaries for The Nobelity Project. His performance in Own Their Own will include highlights from a lifetime in comedy, books, and film, and incorporate his latest project, Turk Pipkin’s Book of the every-other Month Club. You can check out their full studio session as well as interviews down below!
