Wil Cope is a spelunker of the soul, an emotional explorer poking into the dusty corners of life, kicking up lost memories and the feelings that come with them. Some of that introspection comes with the country music genre, but Wil Cope takes it in a whole new direction. His tone, tempo, and delivery all work together to create wonderfully lazy, languid songs ripe with innuendo and honest emotion we are going to call Stoner Country. On songs like “Misguided Memories”, Cope uses all his tools as a songwriter to paint a picture of some love-weary soul thumbing through a picture book of faded memories. Wil Cope was joined in Studio 1A by guitarist Doug Walseth, Simon Florey on bass and backup vocalist Sarah LePuetia to play us a few songs off his brand new EP Gloom Shrine, out February 11th.
