AUSTIN—March 12, 2014—KUTX 98.9 has been voted “Best Radio Station” in the Austin Chronicle’s 32nd annual music poll.
This is the first time the station has earned this distinction since KUTX launched last year. Sister station KUT 90.5, Austin’s NPR station, landed at No. 3 in the poll.
“It’s been an amazing first year for KUTX and winning an Austin Music Award is the perfect way to cap off the year,” said Matt Reilly, KUTX program director. “It’s very humbling and we are extremely honored that our hometown audience has responded so positively to what we’re doing. Thank you!”
KUTX’s “Twine Time,” hosted by Paul Ray, came in at number two on the list of “Best Radio Music Programs,” followed by “Eklektikos” (4) hosted by John Aielli and “Old School Dance Party” (7) hosted by John E. Dee.
Four KUTX music hosts were recognized in the “Best Radio Personality” category including Ray (4); Aielli(5); Dee (7) and Laurie Gallardo (9).
The Cactus Cafe, which is programmed by KUT 90.5 and KUTX 98.9, was recognized (2) in the “Best Acoustic Venue” category.

Austin music poll winners will be honored during the Austin Music Awards at Austin Ballroom in the Austin Convention Center at 7 p.m. today.
The Austin Music Awards will feature The Youngbloods Choir, Church on Monday with special guestRay Benson, Francis Preve, Lucinda Williams, the Texas Tornados and the Minor Mishap Marching Band.
