Pet Sounds turns 57!

Maile Carballo / KUTX

On May 16, 1966, The Beach Boys released “Pet Sounds.” The transformative album is revolutionary thanks to its ambitious production techniques and broad use of unusual instrumentation. But, despite goats on the cover, the only actual pet sounds are Brian Wilson’s barking dogs Banana and Louie at the end of the song “Caroline No.”

“Bungle in the Jungle
Jethro Tull; kind of not
their best but there
are animal sounds!”

Laurie Winfield

“Disco Duck. Although
I suspect the quacks
are not from real
ducks disco dancing”

David Geldard

“So, Run the Jewels
remixed their 2nd
album, “RTJ2” using
mostly cat noises.
None of it is
radio friendly, but it’s
great nonetheless.”
