Lena Luca

June is Pride Month and all month long we’re spotlighting queer Austin musicians of today and the legends who paved the way.

Pride Month Profile: Lena Luca Host: Taylor Wallace; Producer: Art Levy

Lena Luca moved to Austin in 2015 with the same dream many come here for: a solid, supportive start to a bonafide music career. They spent a year at the center of art-funk group Bourgeois Mystics before launching Elevaded, a nod to 90’s industrial post-grunge. In August of 2019, they decided to go solo and let the creativity flow. The result has been a mixture of R&B, electropop, and dance playlist essentials.

Working with longtime collaborator and producer Justin Mauriello of Zebrahead, Lena Luca released their debut single “Superior” in December 2019. With more songs under their belt, Lena Luca was ready to hit the stage. Then, the pandemic happened. Despite this blow of reality, they continued creating, writing more songs, and even shooting music videos.

The return of live music ushered in the live debut of Lena Luca, and it’s all been a steady climb since. From sharing the stage with Remi Wolf to working with No Doubt drummer Adrian Young, to being an official SXSW 2023 artist, it seems like there’s nothing but good things on the horizon for Lena Luca.

You can catch Lena Luca at the final installment of the Be Gay For Spite showcase on Thursday, June 29 at Swan Dive along with another Pride Month featured artist, P1nkstar.
