Pokémon Go Makes Impression On Music Industry
Pokémon Go is integrating itself everywhere, so it makes sense that it would be making an impression in the music world too. Billboard has a suggested playlist attributing each song to a particular Pokémon (MGMT’s “Electric Feel” and Bruno Mars’s “The Lazy Song” representing Pikachu and Snorlax respectively), and Spotify released metrics as well. They report a 362% jump in streaming of the Pokémon theme song globally in the last week, over 197,000 user-created Pokémon-themed playlists, and a general tripling in the steaming of Pokémon-themed songs. Art of Rap Tour Cancels Texas Dates
The much-anticipated Art of Rap festival set to go down Sunday at the Austin360 Amphitheater has been cancelled. C3 Presents sent an email disclosing the information this morning, but did not offer any reason for the cancellation, just that refunds will be available. The Dallas date for the tour was also cancelled, sparking speculation of the reason of the cancellations ranging from the heat of the weather to the heat from the shooting that occurred last week in downtown Dallas. There was already controversy over the Dallas show after a picture of Dallas shooter Micah Xavier Johnson with Public Enemy’s Professor Griff was posted on Twitter by the Daily Mail; a Tweet Griff immediately took to the Internet to point out was a picture that had been taken some time ago at one of the rapper’s many speaking events, shaming the news source for trying to assassinate his character and tie him to the shootings.
