Prince Gets Pantoned

In life and death, Prince tributes are abundant, but the latest may win the award for equally flattering and random. The Pantone Color Institute announced the latest hue to enter the family, and it’s all for Prince.

Love Symbol #2 is a brilliant shade of plum, perfectly encompassing that royal hue made iconic through Prince’s logo, custom Yamaha piano, and even his wardrobe. Pantone Color Institute vice-president Laurie Pressman said of the color’s inclusion, “Love Symbol #2 is emblematic of Prince’s distinctive style. Long associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Prince’s unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself.”

Dionne Warwick to Recieve Prestigious Marian Anderson Award

Dionne Warwick has been announced as this year’s recipient of the Marian Anderson Award, given to established artists who use their prowess and influence for humanitarian goals. Named for the pioneering opera singer Marian Anderson, the award has been around since 1943, but has gone through several resurrections and reconstructions over the last few decades, most recently in 1998 to include all established artists, not just singers, who exhibit leadership in one or more humanitarian areas.

The first black singer to perform at the Metropolitan Opera, Warwick has had 18 consecutive top 100 singles and 20 best-selling albums. Off-stage Warwick has used her influence to champion several philanthropic efforts, most notably those battling AIDS and world hunger. Warwick will be presented with the award on November 14th in Philadelphia.
