New Fresh City: Spring 2024

KUTX / Diego Artea

Four Fresh Tracks from Austin Artists

For the past couple of years, KUTX host Aaron “Fresh” Knight has kept a running playlist of some of the best new releases from Central Texas hip hop and R&B artists called “New Fresh City.” There is so much good stuff on there we can’t share it all, so here are four of his favorites from the past few months. We’ll be back throughout the year to share more from the playlist but you can always follow along with the info below.

Find the New Fresh City playlist at the bottom of this post and be sure to catch Fresh on-air every Saturday morning 10a-2p and Saturday night 10p-1a on The Breaks

The Teeta: “The Glow”

Growing into his elder statesman role, The Teeta is set to release a new album in 2024, with “The Glow” as the first offering. Teaming up with frequent collaborator, Boss Beatz on the production, Teeta showcases his signature braggadocious swag raps, backed by lines from Julius Carry (who portrayed Sho’Nuff in the 80’s cult classic film, Berry Gordy’s The Last Dragon).

Lara’: “Pushaman”

Formerly known as Eimaral Sol, Lara is stepping back out front after backing up the breakout artist, Blk Odyssy. With her last release now coming a little over a year ago, Lara returns with “Pushaman”, a song that shows she is hooked on love and isn’t looking for rehab.

BLK ODYSSY

“Want You”

Breaking away from what has become their signature smooth, soulful funk sound, their first release of 2024, “Want You” is uptempo and more pop-sounding. While it may be a bit of a lane switch, Blk Odyssy still provides a bit of the funk that fans have grown to love.

JEDI512: “Sugar-Free Lemonade”

After growing silent towards the end of 2023, the ever-so-elusive JEDI512 returns with more in-depth, introspective lyrics. On “Sugar-Free Lemonade”, JEDI speaks to a woman that has seemingly lost her appeal.
