Every Ozomatli show leads the audience into a glorious frenzy – and oftentimes, out of any given venue and into the street to dance. It’s a rambunctious affair. Throughout their journey, Ozomatli continues to expand their musical approach, push boundaries, and play for all people. And as they defy categories, they proudly amplify voices of marginalized communities. Every song is a collaboration, every album a compilation. It’s a musical family with contributions from every member, casting aside genre even before alt.-Latinx was utilized as a descriptor. And now they march forth into their next chapter.
Today’s AMM featured single is “Mi Destino,” from the band’s 2020 release Marching On. Guatemalan music artist Gaby Moreno joins Ozomatli on this fierce, booming declaration of autonomy, “Sigo en mi camino” – never wavering from the path forward. “Brown and proud we don’t settle so get it / They may never give us the credit, but we know how to get it…”
