Black Books at KUTX 10.15.13

Black Books present themselves as a southern dream pop band made up of “five old friends playing music together since forever”. It’s easy to hear that long-standing musical relationship between the five Austinites when listening to the band’s new self-titled album. Individually unwinding sounds coalesce into a dynamic whole, creating a spaced-out texture that still bites with catchy vocal hooks and arpeggiating synthesizers. The end result: an infectious take on psychedelic rock that begs for multiple replays. Black Books may have only an EP, Aquarena, and their self-titled debut as far as official releases go, but the combined quality of both records is a force to be reckoned with.

We at KUTX are still buzzing with excitement from the live Studio 1A performance from Black Books. They stopped by just days before making a trip to New York for CMJ Fest, and you’ll have another chance to see them live come November 30 when they play at The North Door as a part of The Good Music Club. In the mean time, take a listen to their KUTX performance below!
