East Cameron Folkcore @ KUTX 11.5.14

East Cameron Folkcore wants to bring back a sense of social consciousness that they feel has been missing from much of today’s music. Formed in the Northeast Austin neighborhood that they’re named for, ECF pieces together eleven or more artists from backgrounds varying from folk, country, blues, and punk to create a unique predominantly political sound. As a folk-punk-orchestral band, ECF’s songs represent the poor and downtrodden while expressing the disgruntled and under employed youth they identify with.

Since forming in 2010, East Cameron Folkcore has released three albums that have attracted critical recognition and praise well beyond their local Austin following. Last year ECF caught the ear of German record label Grand Hotel Van Cleef, who released their sophomore album For Sale across Europe, vastly expanding the scope of ECF’s fanbase. In 2014 the group was named one of the best bands at SXSW 2014 by NY Times critic Jon Pareles as well as one of “10 Bands to Watch in 2014” by Austin Music Monthly. ECF has just finished up a six-month recording stint for their third full-length Kingdom of Fear, due for release in early 2015. East Cameron Folkcore will be playing around the Live Music Capital every Saturday over the course of this month. You can catch East Cameron Folkcore’s next show this Saturday, November 8th at the Paramount Theatre or stream them right here on KUTX!
