Black Pumas

The KUTX Artist of the Month for July was a long time coming. It was only last summer when we first heard from Black Pumas’ with their debut single, “Black Moon Rising.” In the short span of a year, they became a hot band not only in Austin but the rest of the states and Europe. That’s some wild and heady times for the two founding Pumas: Austin’s Adrian Quesada and former Los Angelino, Eric Burton.

We’ve been patiently awaiting their first full-length album, and we’re pleased to report that it’s finally out and worthy of the year-long delay! The band is about to take their dynamic show on the road and embark on an extended summer tour all over North America and then onto Europe in the fall. Be sure and check out our videos of their performance in Studio 1A to see what a band on the rise looks like.

If you like what you hear you can check out our recent episode of This Song featuring lead singer of Black Pumas Eric Burton as he describes how hearing “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay” by Otis Redding gave him new inspiration for what singing could sound like.
