Inspiration often arrives at the most unexpected times. For Dana Falconberry, it was during some breaks in between working on her forthcoming album at Public Hi-Fi back in December. It was an opportunity to collaborate with producer/engineer Jim Eno (Spoon) and wander into territory that was something of a departure from Falconberry’s signature organic textures.
Falconberry and Eno created two tracks, “Palmless” and “Seven Hills,” while experimenting with synth sounds and unusual rhythms. Both pieces are immersed in an atmosphere that, while capturing the beauty of Falconberry’s contemplative songwriting and exquisite vocals, took on more ethereal tones. “Palmless” was debuted as a single, and both tracks were released on 12-inch vinyl in time for Record Store Day.
Dana Falconberry will perform tonight at Stubb’s indoor venue, 801 Red River. It’s another spectacular must-see live performance by an Austin Music Minute favorite. The bill also features performances by RF Shannon and Devon Sproule. Doors open at 9 p.m. Very recommended.
