On any given day in the ATX, there are several shows happening in a single evening. Even on a slow night, you’ll find at least a handful of venues with something going on. Along comes SXSW and you find that everything’s amped up ten times over, with an overabundance of selections. So, the AMM steps up to offer a few picks, from SX events to festival alternatives:
- Today, Hotel Vegas presents the gargantuan SX Soundcheck, which includes an ¡All Day Cumbia! showcase on the indoor stage with El Combo Oscuro, Hotel De Nova, El Tule, Miguel St. Michael and more. Doors at noon.
- It’s also day one Mesh Fest at Drinks Backyard, with Cotton Mather, Batty Jr. and more.
- Aunt’s Analog, Cinders Ensemble, Iron Uncle, and Rabbit Hole 7 are among several bands in the day-2 line-up of Yeast By Sweet Beast at Carousel Lounge.
- Ben Buck has an album release show at Tweedy’s Bar, with flobama starting out the evening.
- Glasshealer has their album release show tonight at Radio East, with Large Brush Collection, and Mockjaw, while the SXSGrass bluegrass showcase takes up Radio East this afternoon with Valley Flower, Texas String Assembly, Beth Chrisman and more, starting at 1 p.m.
- And Angry Tooth and Doomy Folks presents the Noise Revolt showcase at the new Crow Bar’s Raven Room includes Rosegarden Funeral Party, Hexpartner, Subpar Snatch, Nilsa No One, today’s AMM-featured duo Jet Cemetery and more.
