It’s the twentieth anniversary of Interpol’s second LP…
It was a hard act to follow, even for Interpol.
In a nutshell, Turn On the Bright Lights is phenomenal. Essential listening for the brooding heart savoring every bit of the music’s innate gloom and enigmatic language. Even a few reviewers were falling over their own praises for Interpol’s debut. So, what were the expectations for the sophomore album? Demanding ones, no doubt – and Interpol did not disappoint. Antics holds true to the darkness then surpasses Bright Lights‘ morosity, eschewing any conjecture with sharper production and leaning into more melodic territory.
This year, the band celebrates Antics’ 20th anniversary with a tour including a stop in Austin tomorrow night at Moody Amphitheater. Doors at 6 p.m., with …And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead opening the show. A win/win situation.
And oh, that opening bass on “Evil”…
