Away at Sea

The figurative depths are menacing. But Zach Blew did not, and will not, drown.

Zach Blew album release show, Saturday at The 04 Center.

Music has always been a big presence in Zach Blew‘s life. He and twin sib Cam Blew grew up playing music in their church. Music was – and always has been – there, a constant force not yet harnessed for true self-expression. It’s never an easy decision to create something as personal as an original song, let alone an entire album. As time passed, the idea of making original music remained in the back of Zach’s mind. It would happen at the right time.

It took ten years for the Austin-based folk-pop artist to unanchor Away at Sea into the vast blue, but there’s no time limit on chronicling one’s journey. Moments of self-discovery and healing from spiritual violence are all woven into the fabric of Blew’s beautiful and explorative debut.

“On voyages, we bring heirlooms with us as reminders of who we are, where we’ve been,” Blew says. “Each song on Away at Sea represents an heirloom I’ve carried or discovered over the last 12 years, covering themes of grief, heartbreak, possibility, expression, connection and wonder.”

Join Zach Blew for his album release show Saturday night, April 27, at The 04 Center on S. Lamar Blvd. Doors at 7 p.m., and the show begins at 8 p.m.
