Forget being afraid. Bartees Strange’s Horror faces the fears that paralyze the mind.
It was the perfect rainy day soundtrack. Bartees Strange opened his KUTX Studio 1A set this afternoon with an exquisite stripped-down version of “Sober” from Horror, an album diving into the dark recesses of facing one’s fears and emerging as someone to be feared. And, rather than going into the KUTX-featured single “Backseat Banton”, Strange happily shared another favorite of his, “Doomsday Buttercup”, reflecting on the sweet relief and comfort of returning home to one’s partner after tour.
Bartees Strange performs tonight at The Parish. Doors at 7:30 p.m., with Sacramento, CA native Tré Burt and Austin-based artist Elijah Delgado opening the show.
