Big Black Coat is the latest from Hamilton, Ontario electronic duo Junior Boys, their first LP in about five years. It’s a slight departure for Jeremy Greenspan and Matt Didemus from the hip-hop based, ’80s-inspired technopop constructions of It’s All True (2011), and delves more into early Detroit techno influences that have been a longtime favorite/inspiration of Greenspan.
Following their performance in KUTX’s Studio 1A today, Junior Boys head to the Mohawk tonight for a show on the outdoor stage, with Ontario artist Jessy Lanza and Edmonton, Canada synth artist Borys on the bill. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Recommended.
