Black Diva Magic

Reverence and magnificence. Qi Dada energizes a most important healing environment.

AMM March 30 2024

BLACK DIVA Concert, tonight at Austin PBS Studios, 6101 Highland Campus Dr., Bldg. 3000.

You know it when you see Riders Against the Storm onstage, or on the dance floor at Body Rock at Sahara Lounge. You hear it in her voice, her inspiring words, her sense of humor, her simultaneously regal and no-nonsense demeanor as she uses her platform to educate and celebrate. Qi Dada herself is magic.

This weekend, that magic will illuminate Austin PBS Studios with the music and joy of BLACK DIVAS, a concert spotlighting the dedication and commitment of the birth-working world, and raising awareness around the rise of maternal death rates across Texas.

“This program recognizes that the serious nature of birth demise deserves space for healing, reverence and art that speaks to that experience,” says Qi Dada. “It is imperative that we champion the women shifting the narrative for what women require to thrive at home, and across the globe.”

Tonight’s event honors Black Mamas ATX, providing culturally-aligned and client centered birthing and mental health services, and Black Mamas Village, creating cultural, economic, and social connectivity and support. Qi Dada pays special homage to international dignitary and interfaith leader, Her Royal Majesty Rev. Dr. Dowoti Desir, Semevo the 1st, Queen Mother to Diaspora to the Republic of Benín, a mentor and tremendous influence on Qi Dada’s spiritual and community work in Austin.

The concert features performers from Central Texas, including special guests Tik Tok sensation NaJé, mezzo-soprano Veronica Williams, and Ariana Rowry. Doors for BLACK DIVAS open at 6:30 p.m. at Austin PBS, 6101 Highland Campus Dr., Building 3000. Find ticket information at this link.
