Who: Fiery siren Emily Bell makes no apologies for her musical grooves, sultriness and all-around fabulousness. Stand up and be heard. Create from the heart. And Bell’s also not shy about reminding all ladies to stand up and be proud of who they are.
What: In celebration of all of womankind’s awesomeness, Bell is presenting her #CantTalkBack Wednesdays residency at The Blackheart. It’s a whole new definition of “Ladies’ Night”: A night of great live music, empowerment and expression for and by women.
When: Tomorrow night, and every Wednesday night throughout September, including sets by Elsa Cross, and Beth Lee & The Breakups. The music starts at 9 p.m.
Where: The Blackheart at 86 Rainey St.
Why: The idea for #CantTalkBack Wednesdays stemmed from Bell’s (and many others’) frustration over the judgment of women and their appearances, so prevalent in music, film, television and social media. “We have to listen to one another without judgement,” said Bell,”and at the same time refuse to care what other people think about our own personal choices. And demand freedom.” #CantTalkBack Wednesdays will be a special evening for both women and men to dress and dance as they please, and to engage in conversations about their own experiences. So recommended.
