Maybe you got a few hot moves, but the Chief is calling you out.
Jalesa Jessie had to get the right vibe for the music video. Not just the look, but the feel. She wrote the song, played it, got Walker Lukens to produce it. It’s a badass jam that deserves equally badass visuals. That is to say, it was essential to set the right tone for the new Chief Cleopatra single, “Cold Dancer,” out March 1, and it looks as though Jessie achieved it with wicked panache. Designer/stylist Noble Cole ran with Jessie’s vision to construct a dazzling ensemble that would make Chaka Khan beam with pride, but it’s absolute Chief Cleopatra.
“Cold Dancer” starts out with those sultry, chic pulsating beats while Jessie, in a Donna Summer-esque build-up, commands your best moves as the desire burns, until that drop – “…but I can’t reach you.” The beats morph into rock shreds, erupting in a funked-up guitar finale that slams that icy loser into the corner where they belong. Don’t mess with the Chief.
Do not miss Chief Cleopatra’s first show of the year Sunday night, Feb. 18, at Mohawk on the indoor stage. The bill features Lindsey Rose Black, playing her first show; songwriter Jack Greenwood, and pop/R&B duo Think Less Feel More. Doors at 8 p.m.
