Desert Dream

Holly Miranda recalls having a dream one night about running off to Joshua Tree to be on her own and write. After waking up, she determinedly booked the first house she found and took off.

It was time for a major break from Los Angeles to shake off some frustrating writer’s block that left Miranda drained after her first album. And it seems spending time in the desert was what she needed to trigger inspiration for her second, self-titled release. It also served as a reminder of why she decided to make music 17 years ago – stepping out of comfort zones and moving in new directions, musically and personally.

Don’t miss Holly Miranda tonight at the Cactus Cafe, 24th and Guadalupe in the Texas Union, featuring special guest Marnie Herald. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the music starts at 8:30 p.m. It’s best to get there early for the best seats. And if you were lucky enough to hear Miranda’s live performance today in Studio 1A, you’ll know exactly why this show is very recommended.
