They are an Austin Music Minute favorite, for sure. The Preservation are taking a cosmic-American journey, consisting of the multiple musical influences that have led the way, sort of like rock and pop taking a ride with redneck hippie juju. The band formed in 2009, when duo Mario Matteoli and Cayce Marsh decided it was time for a major change. And of course, this led to a bigger band and the start of that cosmic trip.
These days, the local quintet have two new songs to share on an EP, Hugs/Drugs – a combination of the titles of both tracks. Both are poppy, breezy melodies of summertime bliss, definitely that quintessential cosmic-American vibe they’ve been sending out into the universe.
Check out the EP, and don’t miss The Preservation at their show tonight at the historic Scoot Inn, 1308 E. 4th St. at Navasota. And this is definitely a dream bill for local music lovers: The Couch, Burgess Meredith and Holiday. Looks like doors open a bit earlier at 7 p.m., according to the Scoot Inn’s website. Highly recommended.
