Far In

Far In, the seventh studio album by Roberto Carlos Lange‘s genre-defying musical incarnation Helado Negro, was inspired by a desert landscape familiar to many Texans. Those who love Marfa often comment on its natural beauty and the moods it seems to invoke. Whatever the case, it seems Marfa’s atmospheric wonder impacted Lange’s own creative exploration in a major way.

While in Marfa, Lange collaborated on a multimedia art/sound project with his partner, artist Kristi Sword, titled Kite Symphony, commissioned by Ballroom Marfa. From that experience emerged Lange’s reinvigorated perspective on the visual, textural language that is music – what the sounds convey. The vast spaces and endless Texas sky struck the Brooklyn-based songwriter as an almost alien landscape, but it deepened his sense of the imagination running wild. Far In is most effectively communicating the sensations of this nebulous, mysterious, wide open expanse…

Helado Negro is in Austin for his rescheduled show at the Mohawk, happening tonight, Monday August 29. Doors at 6:30 p.m. Chicago-based artist Kaina opens the show.
