Bartees Strange‘s 2020 release Live Forever is a remarkable debut, this twist-and-turn cyclone of multi-genre ferocity that feels so organic and effortless that one is left wondering how there’s that much room in the artist’s brain. It’s thunderous, it’s everywhere, and it’s ruthless. So, where to from this point? Bartees Strange keeps the momentum going with the equally if not more massive Farm to Table, his first release on UK label 4AD, and it’s one hell of a feast. Once again, we’re treated to Strange’s songwriting prowess and the workings of a tremendous voice, both in vocals and stylistic selections.
Bartees Strange returns to Austin for a show tonight, Tuesday Nov. 29, at Empire Control Room on E. 7th. Brooklyn-based artist Pom Pom Squad and Florida duo They Hate Change share the bill. Doors at 6:30 p.m.
