We’re lucky in Austin. We have choices when it comes to music fests. There’s a lot of information here, so your humble Austin Music Minute maven will try to be brief and to the point:
– The Austin City Limits Music Festival is underway. Day two features performances by Silversun Pickups, Junip, Lissie, Portugal the Man, Wilco, Kings of Leon, and closing out the evening will be The Cure. Tomorrow’s AMM picks include Divine Fits, White Denim, The National, Phoenix, Tame Impala, Atoms For Peace, and Mr. Dancin’ On the Ceiling himself, Lionel Richie. Check the ACL Fest website for a full schedule listing.
– Wandering off the beaten path? There’s a wonderful opportunity for you to take in lots of local talent with Raw Paw‘s Ditch the Fest Fest, happening today and next Saturday at the Scoot Inn, 1308 E. 4th St. Today’s bill includes Borrisokane, Boy + Kite, The Sweet Nuthin, The Ghost Wolves, and Holiday Mountain, among many others. The music starts at 4 p.m.
– You can get your share of outsider roots and punk with the Austin Corn Lover’s Fiesta, presented by San Antonio label Saustex and your favorite cowpunk hoodlums The Hickoids. The Fiesta continues today at Infest, 213 W. 4th St., with a benefit show for Gary Floyd of The Dicks, and includes performances by Pocket FishRmen, El Pathos, Pure Luck, Scorpio Rising, and Dark Planes. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and it’s an all-ages show. The Fiesta also continues October 11th at Hole In the Wall, 2538 Guadalupe, and October 12th at The White Horse, 500 Comal. Check the Saustex website for all the details.
Go forth and support the music you love.
