Fuzzed-out dream-pop trio Mirror Travel was already creating a major buzz in its previous life as Follow That Bird, so much so that they were getting the attention of artists such as Bill Callahan, who asked the band to be his support act on a tour, and …And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, who also snatched the band up as an opening act for one of their summer tours. They were also ready to work on a new album, their first full-length release ever.
Life has an odd – and many times stupid – way of shifting gears, though. Funding for the album fell through, but this didn’t stop the band from moving forward and making their own changes. Guitarist/vocalist Lauren Green, bassist/vocalist Paul Brinkley and drummer Tiffanie Lanmon dusted the mess away and became Mirror Travel, and made their way to Marfa Recording where engineer/producer Gorey Smelley would work with them on their record Mexico.
Today marks the official release of Mexico, and the beginning of a tour that will take Mirror Travel to venues in New Orleans, Memphis, D.C. and New York, to name a few spots. Join Mirror Travel for their tour kick-off show tonight at Hotel Vegas, 1502 E. 6th St. The bill includes sets by RF Shannon and Suspirians. Doors open at 9 p.m., and the music starts at 10 p.m. Hell yes. Recommended.
