The proprietors of Eastside hot spot Cheer Up Charlie’s are ready to close the doors at the current location on E. 6th. Lots of incredible shows, dance parties and special events have taken place here, too numerous to mention. But while one set of doors closes, another opens wide with a bright future ahead. Cheer Up Charlie’s fans will be able to continue the good times at the new location, 900 Red River, the former home of Club DeVille next to the Mohawk.
Still, it wouldn’t be a proper good-bye without a huge send-off filled with loads of live music, and that’s what Cheer Up Charlie’s is ready to do. Brace yourself for The Glass Elevator Shoots Into the Sky farewell bash going down tonight, tomorrow night and Sunday night at 1104 E. 6th St. You may recognize quite a few of these local bands set to play the three-day celebration:
Tonight: La Migra, Tiger Waves, Shivery Shakes, Residual Kid, The Sour Notes, Daniel Francis Doyle and Chipper Jones.
Saturday: Night Drive, Royal Forest (whom you heard on today’s Austin Music Minute), God’s Gun, Houston-based band Young Girls and Little Radar, with a massive blowout by DJ Mouthfeel.
Sunday: Midnight Masses (featuring members of Trail of Dead), Ruby Fray and Jess Williamson, with spins by Flying Turns.
The music starts at 7 p.m. each evening. And, in honor of Free Week, there’s no cover at the door. Cheers to you, Cheer Up Charlie’s, and here’s to more great times in the years to come.
