Friends of Kristian Caballero will tell you she’s a compassionate soul, a passionate advocate of women’s reproductive rights, and an all-around lovely person. She’s also fiercely independent. Naturally, when the time came to ask for a bit help, it was not something Caballero was inclined to do. But leave it to the local music community to step up to the plate and show support.
Recently, Caballero found a lump on her right breast. There was cause for concern, because cancer is prominent in her family. Fortunately, after surgery, the lump was confirmed as benign, but the medical bills added up rather quickly. Despite having health insurance, Caballero was facing huge medical expenses that her insurance didn’t cover – an all-too common story for many Americans requiring medical care.
So, Caballero’s friends at The White Horse put together a special fundraiser show for her to help cover the costs, which kicks off today at 4 p.m. at The White Horse, 500 Comal, following the Eastside Flea Market. The suggested donation is $5 at the door, which will get you a heck of a lot of fantastic live music: Barbara Arriago starts out the event, followed by Adam “Glasseye” Beckley at 5 p.m., Ben Ballinger at 6 p.m., Shakey Graves (whose music is featured on today’s Austin Music Minute) at 7 p.m., Dave Insley’s Careless Smokers at 8 p.m., Jimmy & The Mustangs at 10 p.m., and The Modern Don Juans at midnight.
Such a treat, and all for a good cause. It’s another great example of our community coming together to help out. Recommended.
