For the Love of SIMS

Ismael Quintanilla III

Get to know the SIMS Foundation, because it’s an extraordinary presence in the Austin music scene – really, a unique entity that has yet to be replicated anywhere else in the U.S. Founded in 1995 and honoring the memory of Austin musician Sims Ellison, SIMS set out to increase access to mental health care and substance use rehabilitation services for Austin musicians, later expanding to include the local music industry at large and their family members. At the root of it all is a commitment to destigmatizing mental health issues.

For the Love of SIMS is one of several special events presented by SIMS in support of their work, and the next celebration happens tomorrow, Saturday Aug. 27, at The Far Out Lounge and Stage, 8504 S. Congress Ave. Doors open at 7 p.m., and performances by ATX artists Chief Cleopatra and Akina Adderley will make it a stellar night. You can also check SIMS website for information on the many ways to show your support.
