Composer/artist Rob Mazurek is widely regarded as a visionary, racing on the edge of improvisational creativity. His bold leaps into the vast possibilities within the electronic musical realm, combined with his exploration of endless sonic possibilities in more traditional instruments, result in a kind of chaotic poetry; an extraordinary, intense, and cosmic journey that defies categorization.
To launch this year’s Sonic Transmissions Festival, Mazurek will perform tonight at Beerland, 711 1/2 Red River. It’s a perfectly matched line-up that includes Austin-based instrumental ensemble Thor & Friends, featuring Thor Harris, Peggy Ghorbani and Sarah Gautier; and experimental electronic duo Rick Reed and Tara Bhattacharya. Doors open at 9 p.m.
An excellent start to an outstanding festival founded and curated by Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and presented by Self Sabotage Records. Recommended.
