Since your Austin Music Minute host instantly became a big fan, the excitement is palpable. A couple of months ago on the ol’ Instagram, Adrian Quesada‘s Electric Deluxe Recorders posted a couple of behind-the-scenes shots of Buffalo Nichols (Carl Nichols) recording some tracks with drummer Brannen Temple and engineer Aaron Glemboski (Redbeard Productions). This is a big deal. As of yet, there are no official recordings by the Austin-based artist out there (several new Buffalo Nichols fans were inquiring after records or downloads at Nichols’ performance at 3Ten in May). You can find performances on YouTube, but nothing seems to be available online for purchase – yet. Stay tuned for details.
Add Buffalo Nichols to your list of artists to watch for. And really, anyone who references Edgar Allan Poe in any banter between songs is a total badass (again, the 3Ten show back in May…).
Meanwhile, a few summer tour dates are coming up for Nichols at the end of this month, leading into August with performances at the Mile of Music Festival and the Sugar Maple Music Festival in Wisconsin. Don’t miss out on Nichols’ summer residency show tonight, Tuesday July 6, at Meanwhile Brewing Company, 3911 Promontory Point Dr. The music starts at 7 p.m.
