Live Life Longer

Like many individuals in a similar position, Michael Chan was hit with the news rather unexpectedly.

The Pitchfork contributor was on assignment, covering the Primavera Sound music festival, when he became ill. Subsequent medical tests confirmed some devastating news: Stage 4 cancer, affecting both the liver and colon. Yet, as challenging as this has been, Chan’s positive outlook (something he’s known for by the music artists and others in his field he’s been so supportive of) has risen above the fray and keeps him moving forward. Now his friends and colleagues are stepping up to support him.

The Life Life Longer Fest is a benefit show happening tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, organized to help Chan cover costs for his cancer treatments. The show bill is absolutely sick:  Bright Light Social Hour, Annabelle Chairlegs (featured on today’s AMM), Nolan Potter’s Nightmare Band, Hovvdy, RF Shannon, Marijuana Sweet Tooth, and a DJ set by Mac DeMarco. And some extra icing on the cake: A showing of two short films by photographers Pooneh Ghana and Matt Lief Anderson, made from their time on the road with Broncho and Kevin Morby. In addition, images by photographers that Chan has worked with will also be on sale for the benefit.

Doors are open now. This one comes very recommended, with extra good vibes going out to Chan.
