Long Player

Love at first listen doesn’t happen very often for your humble Austin Music Minute host, but it’s definitely instant love for The Villas‘ new album, Long Player. “Tis true, the Austin-based power-pop quartet has been performing for awhile now, with several EP’s in their catalogue – Spyglass (2011), Century of Tries (2012), Life Goes On (2013), and three released in 2014, Natural Selection, The Singles, and Evil Ways – but Long Player marks their full-length debut. It’s everything The Villas are known and loved for, with a sharper, tighter delivery of their melodic, mad-riff Brit-pop-inspired tracks, and sounding better than ever. (The new album’s title track is featured on today’s AMM.)

This is another one you can’t miss. The Villas have their album release show tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, with Wildcat Apollo and Waco quartet Loafers on the bill. Doors open at 9 p.m. And yes, this is one of those shows where you need to see all the bands. Get there early. Recommended.
