Loom

Six years had passed since Pompeii‘s last album, Nothing Happens For A Reason, and for those of us who are fans, that is rather a long time. Too long. Thankfully, the local quartet triumphantly returns with the much-anticipated Loom, produced by Erik Wofford at Cacophony Studios, with mastering by Jeff Lipton (The Magnetic Fields, Arcade Fire).

Since forming in 2004, Pompeii has crafted their distinctive sound with post-rock stylings, but this time around, Loom brings a more atmospheric pop experience with powerful crescendos and tremendous, dramatic build-ups. The band even invited the Tosca String Quartet to add even more beautiful, melodic layers to its rich ambience.

There’s a special treat coming up: In honor of Loom’s release, Pompeii is playing an instore show today at End of An Ear, 2209 S. 1st St. at 6 p.m. If you can’t make it to today’s instore performance, their official release show is this Friday night at Holy Mountain, 617 E. 7th St., with Denton band Pageantry, Houston’s Football Etc. and Botany. Recommended.
