Love Austin Music Month: Black Books

So much to love when it comes to Love Austin Music Month that one month is scarcely enough! But January has been designated by the City of Austin Music and Entertainment Division as a reminder to support Austin music artists all year round. And today the AMM spotlights an Austin five-piece making mesmerizing stadium-sized pop, Black Books. Several fans were ignited by the slow but gigantic burn of “Favorite Place,” the opener on the four-track EP Aquarena and soon the sonic gateway to their 2013 self-titled LP, each track deliberately constructed to resonate in tremendous spaces – physical or cerebral.

Their next LP Can’t Even (2017) was their last full-length release, followed by a handful of of singles in 2020, including today’s AMM featured track “Bad News,” recorded remotely by the band, and their 2021 cover of Radiohead’s “Morning Bell (Amnesiac Version).” More is on the way, and you can catch Black Books at their show tonight, Tuesday Jan. 10, at Hotel Vegas on E. 6th, with Deep Sleep and Tombus. Doors at 9 p.m.
