The Austin Music Minute is supported by Howler Brothers, an Austin-based designer of creative outdoor apparel since 2011, and by Planet K, Austin’s local hemp emporium since 1990.
Following the badassery of their 2016 garage/surf pop-rock debut Salty, ATX rockers Mean Jolene turned toward a more melodic approach on their second LP Try Harder, simultaneously leaning into fiery power pop energy and different territory in Jolie Cota Flink‘s songwriting. Love, loss and Flink’s personal experiences with bipolar disorder are part of the dynamic of duality; bold and upbeat sounds juxtaposed with vulnerability.
For today’s AMM Love Austin Music Month feature, here’s your show pick: Mean Jolene tomorrow night at The 13th Floor, with an all-Austin line up featuring pop-rockers Small Engine Fire and dream pop band Chimes. Doors at 8 p.m.
KUTX’s Love Austin Music Month coverage comes from Eldorado Café.
