Mixta Terrestrial

Your Austin Music Minute describes them, with starry-eyed admiration, as the “interstellar dynamic duo” with good reason. Shabazz Palaces, the cosmic funk/hip-hop project of Palaceer Lazaro (Ishmael Butler of Digable Planets) and Tendai Maraire, seems not of this world, serving up unusual twists as they rocket through faraway planetary grooves less traveled. Soak in the unconventional alien-scape of Quazarz: Born On A Gangster Star, one half of their “monozygotic twin” album release that includes Quazarz vs. the Jealous Machines, and you’ll feel the quirky methods to the imaginative (space) madness flying all over the galactic map. Unconventional beats for the unconventional ear.

Don’t miss Shabazz Palaces tomorrow night at the Mohawk outside stage, 912 Red River, with Seattle hip-hop groovester Porter Ray opening the show. Make your way inside the Moahwk afterward for sets by Philadelphia psych rockers Shadow Band and Austin psych-pop masters The Halfways. All recommended.
