Nectar of the Gods

For Jamaican recording artist Etana, it’s about creating music that will last forever.

Monday’s AMM is giving you a head start on a show coming up this Friday at Flamingo Cantina. Jamaican singer, songwriter and producer Etana presents a striking mix of soul, reggae, dancehall and R&B with a strong connection to her Jamaican roots, resonating with audiences worldwide. She’s currently on tour supporting her album Nectar of the Gods, which she started working on in 2022. Though she didn’t have a specific theme in mind when she began writing for it, she often thought about her hopes of creating something that would be eternal, that would last forever. “Music has taken generations through some of the hardest times in history,” Etana told The Gleaner. “Music is sweet like honey. There is not a race or religion that can do without music. Music has to be the nectar of the gods. The nectar of the god in you and me…”

Etana brings her tour to Austin for a performance this Friday night, Aug. 30, at Flamingo Cantina on 6th St. The line-up features sets by Houston band Roots From The Clay, and reggae/jazz artist Jah Bill, plus great eats available from Winston’s Kitchen.
