Night at The Sahara

Seriously, this is one of those Austin Music Minutes that just writes itself. This one is a no-brainer. This is worth staying up late for. It’s a feast of all-local talent tonight at The Sahara Lounge, 1413 Webberville Rd. My friend and colleague Jennifer Marchand of Bleu French Laundry also has a deep appreciation for the local bands, and this bill is an exceptional treat. Feast your ears on this, babe:

Midnight – Headlining the evening is none other than the mighty Danny B. Harvey (guitarist for The Rockats, AND mega rockabilly supergroup The Head Cat with Slim Jim Phantom and…oh…you know…Lemmy?) teaming up with special guests The French Connection. I mean, really?? You can’t miss this.

11 p.m. – Booty-shakin’ time with some sweet burnin’ rock ‘n’ soul with The Happen-Ins. A new album is on the way from these dudes. Stay tuned.

10 p.m. – There’s not enough rocket fuel in the world to keep up with them. Low-fi high-volume pop-rock madness with Watch Out For Rockets. It’s the band that would play Skeletor’s party when he invites the gang from Robot Chicken.

9 p.m. – The dastardly duo Mayeux & Broussard tear the house up with country/blues/roots riots. Tate and Brian show no mercy, which makes for some damn fine shows.

If you get to the Sahara early (and you really should), enjoy the perfect happy hour with songwriter, classic country lover and Hill Country gem Kathryn Legendre at 7 p.m.

All of this in one night? At one venue?! Yeah, buddy. Welcome to Austin. So recommended.
