Following Nilufer Yanya‘s 2019 debut release Miss Universe, the London-based songwriter amps up with a bristling urgency on PAINLESS, chipping away at layers to return to the basics. Equal parts euphoric and anxious, cool spots and tense places, dynamic guitar and disquieting intrigue, even the lyrical language has a quick, abbreviated feel at times. But there are those wonderful melodies, the consistently gorgeous thread throughout the entire album.
Nilufer Yanya’s tour includes a show in Austin tomorrow night, Tuesday April 26, at Antone’s. It’s an incredible line-up featuring Tasha, and Ada Lea. Doors open at 7 p.m.
