The Heavy Heavy lean into their Brit-rock roots on their debut LP.
This LP shimmers. The AMM has to take a moment to gush over Georgie Fuller and William Turner‘s glorious harmonies that send it over the top, but there’s a lot more happening here.
One Of A Kind is the outstanding debut LP by Brighton pop outfit The Heavy Heavy, delivering excellent musicianship enriched by classic influences without falling back on the laurels of nostalgia. Too many things at play to simply call this a throwback, with Turner and Fuller giving themselves more room to explore a wider range of sounds, stemming from ’60s English pop/rock through grittier psych-folk, heavier bass and grooves, plus layers of instrumentation to give it all a bigger, bolder resonance.
Hell yes to One Of A Kind. Catch The Heavy Heavy tomorrow night, Thursday Oct. 10, at Mohawk on the outdoor stage, with Dylan LeBlanc opening the show. Doors at 7 p.m.
