All right, music lovers. In all the excitement over this year’s Fun Fun Fun Fest at Auditorium Shores, your humble Austin Music Minute maven may have neglected to explain the stage color deal to festival newcomers. A thousand pardons!
Newbies, if you take a moment to visit the FFF Fest website, you’ll see there are various color-coded stages. The AMM is focusing primarily on the ones with musical performances – The Orange Stage, the Blue Stage, and the Black Stage, with a few music sets mixed in between comedy performances on the Yellow Stage. (The Green Stage is rather partial to things BMX-related and maybe some of those mega-ramps I wouldn’t go near to even if you forced me to because…I’d fall, and the Red Stage is the Wrestling Ring – which spells several ambulance trips for yours truly, if I so indulged…unless it involved Harrison Ford.)
Sooo…today’s AMM spotlights some Orange Stage favorites, many of whom you may have heard on KUTX, like Dinosaur Jr., The New Pornographers, First Aid Kit, Modest Mouse, Alt-J, Neutral Milk Hotel, and Yo La Tengo. Your AMM hostess’ personal selections include Courtney Barnett and King Tuff (featured on today’s AMM) on Saturday, and Dum Dum Girls on Sunday. Check the FFF Fest website for schedules.
The Fest officially kicks off tomorrow, but don’t forget the opening Fun Fun Fun Nites shows tonight at various local venues. You can see Lunice throw down at Cheer Up Charlie’s, The Cutthroats 9 at Beerland, Ex-Cult at Red 7, and Outer Spaces at Hotel Vegas.
It’s a lot to take in, but you can do it. Stay tuned for more FFF Fest recommendations!
