Your humble Austin Music Minute host finds New Mystery Girl‘s credo most appealing (says the woman who reminds listeners, “Don’t behave”). Songwriter/vocalist/guitarist and all-around awesome front woman Chrissie Flatt declares that one can embrace life with the following: Passion, lust and adventure. Clearly indicative of the way New Mystery Girl does their rock ‘n’ roll, as you’ll discover on their new LP, Crawl Through Your Hair.
Recorded and produced at The Bubble, where Frenchie Smith lets rock reign while he’s at the helm, Crawl Through Your Hair fires up garage-pop simultaneously channeling Ronettes and Ramones vibes – a meteoric blast of ‘60s rock-inspired hooks and riffs, extra attitude and, let us not forget, one blazing Telecaster commandeered by Eric Hisaw. Blow those amps, dude.
New Mystery Girl’s album release party was actually May 26th – not scheduled for June 26th, as the AMM erroneously mentioned. However, there definitely is a show with New Mystery Girl tonight at Indian Roller, 10006 Manchaca Rd. They share the bill with Idle Déclassé. It’s an early start around 7 p.m. Go for it. Recommended.
