Long hair, do care, actually. Peach Pit’s Magpie ponders the shoulda, coulda, woulda’s in life…

Peach Pit and Briston Maroney’s Long Hair, Don’t Care tour, tonight at Moody Amphitheater.

Vancouver pop outfit Peach Pit‘s fourth studio release Magpie gets its name from a flock of magpies vocalist Neil Smith saw flying overhead while in Australia. He recalls writing “magpie” down in his phone because the image struck him. A possible song title? It called to mind an old nursery rhyme, “One for Sorrow, Two for Joy,” in which the number of birds one glimpses in the sky determines various omens. An ominous portent, but Smith connected to the idea of various paths chosen in life determining one’s outcome, and thoughts of what might’ve been if a different path was selected.

Peach Pit teamed up with songwriter and Knoxville, TN native Briston Maroney for the Long Hair, Long Life tour, which includes a show tonight at Moody Amphitheater at Waterloo Park. Doors at 5:30 p.m.
