If you got tickets for the Hobo Johnson & The Lovemakers show at the Mohawk before they sold out, you totally scored. But do heed the advice of your Austin Music Minute maven: After their set, make your way to the inside stage to catch Andy Pickett and his band make some magic of their own. It’ll be instant groove love for this self-taught pianist who totally owns the ultra-cool R&B and funk vibes all over his recent self-titled LP.
Your AMM host had the pleasure of seeing Pickett perform at White Denim‘s Radio Milk studio space in East Austin, last spring. Most fitting, considering that Pickett’s LP, his second full-length release, was produced by James Petralli and Steve Terebecki. It’s the right fit.
Check out Pickett tonight at the Mohawk, 912 Red River, on the inside stage, following Hobo Johnson. Doors at 9 p.m. Very recommended.
