If you’ve been to your fair share of shows, music festivals or any music-related events, chances are good you’ve seen Austin Music People (AMP) out and about. Perhaps you’ve seen some AMP representatives speaking in support of local musicians at City Hall. AMP is a local nonprofit that serves as an advocate of the local music community and everyone who supports it. Part of their mission is to unify people in the local scene through a number of proactive efforts that are supportive of the scene.
Earlier this week, AMP gathered a number of musicians, venue owners and other movers and shakers to certify them as deputy voter registrars, so they can register people to vote. These individuals will perform their civic duty tonight and tomorrow night during AMP’s United We Jam event, a set of shows starring all-local bands at a number of venues in East Austin and on Red River. Proceeds from these shows will go toward the continued community service efforts of AMP in support of the music community.
Mind you, this is a lot of stuff to see. Fortunately, Do512 has quite conveniently compiled a list of the United We Jam shows for you to peruse so you know who’s playing when and where. All local talent. All great music. And you’ll have the opportunity to register to vote, if you haven’t done so already!
This makes your humble Austin Music Minute maven proud to be an American. Be sure to catch at least one of these shows. Recommended.
The band featured on today’s AMM is The Sour Notes, who will perform tonight at Cheer Up Charlie’s, 1104 E. 6th St.
