Romantic Images

Molly Burch has a way of making one swoon. It could very well be the breathy subtleties of her voice, the poetry of her love language – the slightly crestfallen humor behind it. Yes. All of this. Now Burch has reached the next chapter, shortly following her 30th birthday, radiating a more confident wisdom.

Burch’s latest release Romantic Images shows off a few stylistic and thematic shifts for the Austin-based songwriter. More electronic pop melodies rule the momentum this time around, in contrast to the cooler, slightly softer tones of her 2017 debut Please Be Mine, And, though love may be the focal point of the new LP, a more wary eye is cast upon all the romantic images we grew up with – “we” referring to womxn being spoon fed the fairytale of unachievable (mainly hetero) romantic relationships since birth. So, pay no mind to the Prince Charming illusion; Burch instead reflects upon loving oneself as one would love another.
